SALTY ONE X JADE KENNEDY ART ‘RETURNING HOME’
The Artwork reflects on the journey or return to country. Like the use of the Boomerang, thrown with purpose and care. The Boomerang always finds its way back to the thrower. Like the country its been thrown from, the Boomerang will return as do we all return to our roots or our kin.
The Gathering is welcoming us back into the fold, as elders sit around the campsite. The knowledge holders have received over their course of their journey, returning to country, we also find a profound sense of acknowledgement to the lore of the land.
The hand extended outwards releasing the sand from the hand, represents the release of not only the stress and tension needed to enter country, or release of bad spirits but an acknowledgement of the past preservers and predecessors of those who passed on lore, the body of knowledge.
WHO IS SALTY ONE?
A proud Nyul Nyul Saltwater Man, Lowell is strongly connected to the ocean. The stories he carves in the sand are from the heart and speak to the world that is, and what it can become.
Lowell Hunter is from the Kimberley’s in Western Australia, who grew up on Gunditjmara Country in Warrnambool, and now lives on Wathaurong Country, Geelong. Although far apart, each of these special places have kept Lowell strongly connected to the ocean his whole life.
