Lowell's Description
“A Mothers Calling” artwork depicts a story about being called back to the Kimberley’s, where my connection to my people and my country comes from. My mum, who I have recently lost, has shared many of her childhood stories with me. Most recently before her passing, mum shared her time spent playing at Reddell Beach as a young girl with other family members.
After hearing mum share memories of Reddell Beach, I wanted to visit this special place and create something that resembled “A Mothers Calling”.
In this artwork I have created a story about sea turtles and the connectedness that they have to the Kimberley coastline. The tracks that I have drawn represent the journey of the mother turtles when they’re nesting using this incredible coastline to lay their eggs. This contemporary artwork that I have created also represents the spiritual and cultural relationship that my people have to turtles and the importance of them in our way of life.
When creating this artwork I also wanted to share the message of caring for country and looking after our environment. This is so marine life and all other wildlife can continue to the flourish in this amazing part of the world.
This artwork was created on Yawuru and Djugan Country at Reddell Beach in Broome, Western Australia.
About R & R Treacy
Rachel and Rebekah Treacy are Kija and Ngarinyin women from the Kimberley, Western Australia; born in Derby and raised in Broome. Growing up in the small coastal town has deepened the sisters love for saltwater country where they have built strong connections with the local people. Rachel and Rebekah have also grown up spending a lot of time connecting with family and their culture on Kija country in the remote East Kimberley and their Ngarinyin family in the remote West Kimberley. The unique beauty of the landscape, the people and culture is what sparked their artistic interest.
Rachel paints in Contemporary Aboriginal style. Her art is very special to her as an Aboriginal woman, as it allows her to paint her interpretation of country, animals, people and everything sacred to her. Through the creative expression of painting she can carry on her culture in a contemporary way. Rebekah’s creative outlet began when she lived in Sydney away from home for 6 years. During this time she painted Kimberley scenes as a way to feel more connected to home. Now living back in Broome Rebekah’s style continues to be inspired by the elements, patterns, colours and scenes of her hometown and surrounds.
In this Kimberley Collaboration Rachel highlights the pathways and connection to country, the turtle tracks left behind by mother turtles coming to nest. The three Kimberley artists coming together to represent a special place and the journeys taken by all; people and animals sharing this place at Reddell Beach.
Turtle’s are a recurring theme in Rebekah’s paintings having grown up on saltwater country and seeing the beauty of them during nesting season. Mother turtles come up to nest on the beach often during high tide. In her personal style Bek has painted in the ocean up close to the sand art created by Lowey to signify this connection along with 2 other turtles to represent the season of new life.

Unframed Hahnemuhle Daguerre 310gsm German Etching (Cotton Rag textured photo paper) and 400gsm Canvas prints are available for purchase. These are available in the following sizes and will be sent in a shipping tube, carefully rolled and wrapped to protect against damage.
Prints are available in the following sizes 90 cm x 67 cm, 120 cm x 89 cm, 150 cm x 111 cm, and 180 cm x 133 cm.
Custom sizes are available upon request. Framing can be arranged for Geelong and Melbourne residents.
Each Salty One artwork print is part of a limited release, which means your purchase is unique and retains its authenticity and value as it will only ever be printed a certain number of times. Each piece is issued with an edition number and artist’s signature that is provided on a certificate of authenticity with each piece.
All artwork is printed locally at a Fine Art Printing Studio in Geelong, Victoria. The artwork is printed using world-class materials on the finest substrates.

Canvas: Canvas is a sturdy material that can be framed with or without glass. The canvas we use for our artwork is a high quality cotton/polyester blend canvas with a smooth woven pattern. The archival life of our canvas prints is 120-150 years! Our canvas prints are available framed or unframed. If you selected a framed artwork, it will be expertly stretched and then framed without glass and is able to be shipped Australia wide.

What about framing?
All canvas products are available framed or unframed as they may be framed without glass & shipped safely.
Cotton Rage must be framed behind glass to ensure longevity, however we only provide cotton rag prints unframed. If you purchase a smaller print you may find a ready-made frame that will suit and choose to frame the print yourself. Please note, it is important to handle cotton rags prints as little as possible so do not remove it from its shipping packaging until it is ready to be framed, and only touch the print on the outer edges to prevent damage. If you have chosen a larger work, a professional framer is your best option and again, please remember to deliver it to your framer without removing it from its packaging to prevent damage.
