'Sea Country'Regular price $465.00
‘Sea Country’ is a sand artwork that was created for the Mirteetch Meering (Sea Country) exhibition in which Lowell was involved in at the Warrnambool Art Gallery in 2021.
The Artwork represents the significance of the Moyjil area and how First Nations people have been and are still strongly connected to the area. The Sand artwork has 3 main symbols that represent the Whales, people, and Eels. The 3 are intrinsically connected.
This artwork was also created with the help of the Koko Blokes dance group comprised of young boys from Warrnambool and Framlingham. Like these young fellas, Lowell also had a strong cultural upbringing which has allowed him to learn about the cultural significance of the eels and whales that migrate through these waters seasonally. A special mention to Uncle Rob Lowe Snr who performed a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony at the start of this artwork on Peek Whurrong Country.
